What is a hydrology/landscape model?
The "Earth System" model for PCGAP, as the core of the computation engine, is provided by geospatialiy-explicit landscape/ hydrology models. The application of the models requires the development of a set of input data files, including meteorological forcing (land surface climatology of daily precipitation, minimum and maximum temperature, and winds), vegetation attributes by vegetation class, a river network derived from a digital elevation model, and river discharge history at select stations.
Two models are used here. The first is the VIC (Variable Infiltration Capacity) model, for the state of Espirito Santo and the Rio Doce in the state of Minas Gerais. The second is the higher resolution DHSVM (the Disturbuted Hydrology Soil Vegetation Model) for the Rio Jucu and the Rio Santa Maria da Vitoria.
